چکیده
Abstract Background and Aims Vascular calcification (VC) is a commonly occurring serious complication in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients that increases mortality. Vitamin K deficiency well known to cause the occurrence of VC through inactivation dependent proteins (VKDP). Therefore, marker can easily predict risk due vitamin needed clinical practice. In this study, we aim investigate whether measurable absence II (PIVKA-II) serve as surrogate for predicting coronary artery (CAC) ESRD receiving hemodialysis what factors influence prediction CAC. Method This study an observational conducted on treatment. Patients with liver cirrhosis, HCC, or history stent placement were excluded, active infectious diseases. CAC score was measured by Non-enhanced computed tomography, before starting hemodialysis, blood samples collected measure PIVKA-II, osteocalcin (OC), bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP) among other bone markers. PIVKA-II two times 3 months interval, average value calculated. Additionally, ankle-brachial index (ABI) DEXA densitometry also performed. Results 69 dialysis participated. Among them, 34 had diabetes mellitus (DM). The compared groups based presence DM. results showed DM higher Body Mass Index (BMI) (p = 0.01) frequency vascular diseases such cerebrovascular 0.004). group LDL cholesterol levels 0.03), but there no significant difference between terms BAP, Osteocalcin (Table 1). When analyzing correlation all patients, (r -0.37, p 0.002) CRP 0.28, 0.03) found have correlation, 0.065, Figure 1A), BAP 0.57), OC 0.45) did not. group, statistically 0.283, 0.001), (Figure 1B) CaxP, cholesterol, CRP, 0.7, 0.4, 0.3, 0.7 0.4 respectively). Conclusion suggest who undergo dialysis, be clinically useful associated deficiency. because diabetic may more pronounced VKDP deficiency, additional research fully understand relationship.

Abdominal aortic calcification is not superior over other vascular calcification in predicting mortality in hemodialysis patients: a retrospective observational study
BACKGROUND KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes) guidelines recommend that a lateral abdominal radiograph should be performed to assess vascular calcification (VC) in dialysis patients. However, abdominal aortic calcification is a prevalent finding, and it remains unclear whether other anatomical areas of VC can predict mortality more accurately. METHODS A total of 217 maintenance...
متن کاملPredicting erythropoietin resistance in hemodialysis patients with type 2 diabetes
BACKGROUND Resistance to ESAs (erythropoietin stimulating agents) is highly prevalent in hemodialysis patients with diabetes and associated with an increased mortality. The aim of this study was to identify predictors for ESA resistance and to develop a prediction model for the risk stratification in these patients. METHODS A post-hoc analysis was conducted of the 4D study, including 1015 pat...
متن کاملSerum resistin a biomarker of type II diabetes development
Background: Resistin and ghrelin are hormones that have roles in the glucose and lipid homeostasis and weight regulation. Human studies regarding resistin and ghrelin in diabetic patients are scarce, especially in the cases of normotensive and non-obese patients. This study was designed to illuminate some of the missing points. Methods: Eighty diabetic patients and eighty healthy individuals par...
متن کاملCoronary artery calcification is associated with insulin resistance index in patients with type 1 diabetes.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the risk factors associated with the presence of coronary artery calcification (CAC) in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). A cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 consecutive T1D patients without coronary artery disease, with at least 5 years of diabetes and absence of end-stage renal disease. Mean age was 38 ± 10 years and 57% were male...
متن کاملIncreased PIVKA-II concentrations in patients with cystic fibrosis.
Serum vitamin K concentrations and prothrombin induced by absence of vitamin K (PIVK-II) concentrations were assayed in 43 patients with cystic fibrosis. Twenty nine showed a normal PIVKA-II and vitamin K concentrations; 14 showed an increased PIVKA-II concentration, in one of whom serum vitamin K was decreased. Although their vitamin K concentrations were normal, some patients with cystic fibr...
